Veterinary EMERGENCY Service
We recommend the Veterinary Emergency Service in Middleton, WI if you have an emregency and cannot wait for another vet clinic to open. This emergency vet clinic is staffed 24/7 and is a great place to go if you are concerned about your pet, but it is past regular veterinary hours. They also have great advise they can give you over the phone.
Black Earth Veterinary Clinic

Leslie and the Team
We have known Leslie Parr, the owner of the Black Earth Veterinary Clinic, for several years now and wouldn't trust our animals with anyone else. All of our golden retriever puppies, dogs, and cats go to the Black Earth Vet for their annual vaccines and general health check-ups. We love the staff--they are very knowledgable and if they don't know the answer right away, they will do more research to find an answer for us.
Spring Harbor Animal Hospital
We usually use Dr. Link at the Spring Harbor Animal Hospital for our breeding needs. They have high-tech equipment that is used for each of our goldens when we need to get their elbows and hips checked. Also, they specialize in reproduction and have helped us with our goldens in the past.
Dodgeville Veterinary Service
Dr. Holter has helped us through a couple of difficult births. He does a great job and we love the dodgeville staff! They were all willing to work late in order to perform a c-section on one of Nutmeg's previous litters and we are forever greatful to them. Plus, they are much more reasonably priced than other clinics in the Madison area and they truly care about their patients.
Petcare Animal Hospital
Chelsea used to work part-time at the Petcare Animal Hospital as a veterinary receptionist. If you live in the Madison area, this is a great place to bring your pet for a routine health check-up or for a surgical procedure. They also have puppy and kitten packages that are a great choice for first time owners!
The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA)
All of our golden retrievers have their hips and elbows checked by the OFA when they are about 2 years old (dog's bones are usually done growing by 18-24 months of age). The x-rays that are taken at our veterinary clinic, are then sent into the OFA to be evaluated. They can come back as poor, fair, good, very good, or excellent. Only dogs that have good or better hips and elbows should be bred. This helps prevent hip and elbow dysplasia in future generations.
The American Kennel Club (AKC)
Our goldens are registered through the AKC and all of our puppies can also be registered through them. Registration papers are not necessary, unless you plan on breeding your dog or if you want to show them in an AKC conformation event. If you have an unregistered dog, the AKC now has a program called Purebred Alternative Listing (PAL) where you can still participate in AKC events even if your dog is not registered through them (maybe the papers were lost or the dog's parents were never registered). The AKC website is very helpful. They have more information about Rally Obedience and the Canine Good Citizen program.
Dog Food Advisor
This is an extremely helpful website because they have thousand of dog food brand reviews. You can check out your own dog food and see if it measures up! The website is a non-biased view of every brand of dog food. Just click on the "Brands A to Z" and pick which one you are currently feeding your dog.
Fromm Dog Food
We love Fromm's Large Breed Puppy formula and their variety of 4-star lines of dog food. Large breed puppy food is for puppies that will be 50 pounds or greater as adults. It is great because the large breed puppy grows them up slower and helps with their joints. Check out their Store Locator to see where you can purchse Fromm dog food.
We also recommend and use Nutrisource and Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul for our puppies and adults.

Golden Retriever Rescue of Wisconsin (GRROW)
GRROW is a great resource for people who are considering adopting a golden--especially for people who would love to have an older golden. Unfortunately, some goldens are surrendered because of financial, family, or health problems. Adopting a golden is a great way to have the perfect family dog that is already trained.
Wisconsin Academy for Graduate Service Dogs (WAGS)
We have donated a few of our golden retriever puppies to WAGS. This is a great organization that takes in puppies to train as service dogs and if they don't make it as service dogs, they are placed in loving family homes.
OCCU-Paws Guide Dog Association
OCCU-Paws is another service dog training academy, but they specialize in training guide dogs for the visually impaired. Another great organization!
Dog Face -- Dog Training in Monroe, WI
Dog Face is a great place to bring your puppy or dog for dog training classes. They are located in Monroe, WI. They also provide private lessons or pet sitting services. Check them out!
The Badger Kennel Club
Located in Deforest, WI (by the north side of Madison), the Badger Kennel Club is one of the places that we recommend for puppy or dog training. Chelsea and Nutmeg also attend their rally and obedience trials that they host once or twice a year. They have some great members that are willing to help you with anything they can--we are actually in the process of becoming members ourselves!
Ruffin It Resort
Have to go on vacation, but can't take your dog with you? Want something for Fido to do while you are working all day? Then Ruffin It Resort is the place for your pooch! They focus specifically on dogs of any age and size. Chelsea works here as the Assistant Daycare Pack Leader--stop in and say hi!
